The Equity Case for Prioritizing Gifted and Accelerated Pathways at a Moment of Reckoning
Limited Capacity seats available

The Equity Case for Prioritizing Gifted and Accelerated Pathways at a Moment of Reckoning; "With the COVID-19 pandemic placing a spotlight on existing inequities in education, issues of racial justice rising to the top of public consciousness at levels unseen in generations, and massive budget cuts likely in K-12 education, there are serious questions about the will to support the needs of gifted and talented learners. At the same time, our society’s need for critical thinking has never been stronger. Colin Seale, education advocate and Founder and CEO of thinkLaw, and author of Thinking Like a Lawyer: A Practical Framework for Teaching Critical Thinking to All Students, will share powerful, but practical arguments for prioritizing and expanding the benefits of gifted and accelerated programs as a key pathway for achieving educational equity."

The Resilient Gifted Scholar
Limited Capacity seats available

There has long been concern that high-ability/gifted students are underserved and underrepresented populations. Those who are limited English proficient, minority, and/or come from low-income backgrounds, students from different cultures, are persistently underrepresented in advanced classes and in programs for students identified as gifted (Morales, 2010). Therefore, they have limited access to others with similar interests, ability, drive, and are not sufficiently challenged. The differences in their abilities and their heightened sensitivities can contribute to concerns, which can ultimately become risk factors. This presentation shares these risk factors but also provides informational protective/resiliency factors for this segment of our population.
